Trip #9a: Westward Ho!

TRIP WEST!
3 nights, all-day drives, two cars full, plus one pulling an Airstream
May 29 – June 1, 2008
SUWANNEE RIVER, FL
LOUISIANA’S CHICOT STATE PARK
TEXAS COPPER BREAKS STATE PARK

Prettiest sign I ever did see.
Bill stressed out from selling one house and moving west to repair another, while I’m happy as a pig in poo. Let’s GO!  We said our good-byes at Chris’s house and got one final group photo. When we left Ft. Lauderdale that early May morning, just about all my sentiments were sapped by 99 percent humidity, couldn't wait to leave--made it real easy. Let's GO! Traveling 2,300 miles in four days meant long drives and little time [for Bill] to enjoy the trip. We were rushing out to be in Durango for when work started on the house (which of course was delayed so we rushed for nothing, but it was hot anyway so onward went we). Managed to get in a few pics on the trip; I confess to shooting mostly while driving.

It's 2300 miles to Durango, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses ... hit it.

Dang near left all the Christmas decorations in the attic!

What I saw for 2,300 miles.

Goodbye I-95!

Got about as far as Orlando and *POW* flat tire! Fortunately the observant Pilot Car noticed the rapid deflation and quickly radioed ahead to pull over NOW.

This guy has some strong bug legs.
uh-oh, musta missed a turn.
Set up camp for the first night, then went way down upon the Suwannee River.

A fine Louisiana morning.

That says welcome to Texas, I'm pretty sure.

Rippin' thru the Big D.

My car always stops for...

Chillin' in Quanah, Texas

Check out the price of gas during this little excursion.
Hey, north Texas looks like Florida.

Camp Copper Breaks, the cleanest park I've seen to date. And real grass!

What a Texas Sunset.

At last, this looks like the way home.

Of course, it took two years for home to start looking like this...

For real. Summer 2005.
