Trip #155: Moab, Hovenweep & Durango for Fall 2026
-- and last trip before busy winter travel season
October 14 - __, 2026
First night in Farmington,. Partly cloudy skies, real mixed bag, mid 50s and 34º and 87% humidity in the am! But with electric here at McGee/Sunray Park, all was toasty. Left (the always beautiful weathered) Santa Fe at 10:15 and arrived here at 2 ON THE DOT, I might add. First night dinner at Fiesta Mexican 🤮, grocery shopped at Safeway 🤨🫤, and to bed early at 9 -- always pooped the first night. Expensive here... Fiesta was a disappointment, always found other locations to be good. Also shopped for overalls at Tractor Supply on National Farmers Day.

Thursday, Oct. 15 - tax day again
Nice day and cool as we drove from Farmington to Dead Horse State Park (site No. 19, elec only), driving thru all the beautiful open and now GREEN from all the rain land like Dove Creek. Nice drive. Stopped in Monticello at Green Mountain grocery, how did we ever not know this was here? Anyway, small but a great help. Passing through Moab, gorgeous day, on our way to the SP, the town was PACKED. And booming -- apartments after apartments. Reminds me of a place called Santa Fe... too much construction. Another 27 miles and we reach the park. Can't remember what we did but probably walked somewhere.

40s last night. Mountain bike day. But first walked to the visitor center and some of a rim walk. Then to the trails: Raven's Roll, to Big chief (my fave), then crossroads to Prickly Pair then out to the road. Whew. Very fun but plenty of uphill on slickrock that we had to walk. Perfect day tho.

Saw that the cell antenna had broken off at the base and was hanging by the wire. Need a ladder to get up there and solicited the camp host to help us out. Nice guy for helping but had to go through government red tape with a release form to borrow it. Got it fixed. Time to ride again went down Ravens to
