Trip #151 (82): Goin' to California for something newer and bigger...

Trip #151 (82): Goin' to California for something newer and bigger...

May 22 - Left Santa Fe on a Friday, Memorial Day weekend, not the greatest of timing. First night in Winslow, again, and seeing it nice a green in the spring for once!

May 23 - Next night in Needles, hot as we expected, like 104 hot. Not fun hot. But a dry hot. Drove around a bit. Stopped by the Needles Harvey House but no progress since we were here years ago. This is a dying town. Stopped at a riverside restaurant/bar which was crowded and loud so went back to trailer and ate there.

May 24 - On to Bakersfield. Stopped in Barstow to see the Harvey House which has been partially redone. Also a Santa Fe RR museum. Our Campground at Bear Mountain was a calamity. Had to call to get access to the drop box for our reservation and site number. Then there was no key to unlock the electric box.

May 25 - On to Rio Vista CG with a stop in Fresno In-n-Out to meet up with A & B. At Rio Vista we had to pack up the trailer and clean up for delivery tomorrow. Lotta work even though we had pre-cleaned before leaving SF.

May 26 - On to Bay Area Airstream to trade in Serenity for 2026 International 30' Coastal. Sales Manager flinched when he saw the hail damage but did not try to renegotiate our deal. Thank God. Went through the orientation of the new trailer. then headed out to Nappa for stay at Best Western and Mex dinner.

May 27 - Early departure to meet up for transport of trailer to Reno for final delivery of unit to avoid CA taxes. Nice sunny day turned to cold and rain with snow flurries heading over the Donner Pass. Went UPS to notarize the sale papers and then on to Washoe Lake CG for the next 3 nights.

May 28 & 29 - Fiddled with the new trailer figuring out how things worked. Shopped for supplies and decor items for storage. Drove around Carson City and hit the stores. Nice town and CG.

May 30 - Time to head for home. Thought we would camp and explore more but trip has been a bit stressful with the long drive and temps rising too. Took Hwy 50, "The Loneliest Road" which is just barren land with very few towns. But pretty. Stopped the first night at Hickson Petroglyphs which had a small campground. We grabbed the first long site we found so we didn't have to unhook. Met a nice couple from Oregon and chatted a bit.

May 31 - Maple Grove, UT

June 1 - Grand Junction, CO

June 2 - Buffalo Pass, Saguache CO

June 3 - Home
